Bethany Brokenbek
Music Educator and Hornist in DFW Metroplex

Bethany was born in Plano, TX to two musical parents who put her in piano lessons at age 5.  She has been a musician ever since.  It was just a few months into her 6th grade beginner horn class that she decided music education would be her calling, so throughout her time at Murphy Middle School, McMillen High School, and Plano East Senior High, she worked towards pursuing a music degree.  As a sophomore, Bethany successfully auditioned for the GDYO Philharmonic Orchestra and played there her junior and senior years.  She played in the top ensemble at the Texas Tech Band and Orchestra Camps in the summers of each of her high school years, and after serving as a student officer for three of those four years, decided to attend college there in 2017.  Bethany had the honor of participating in a number of phenomenal ensembles in her time at TTU, such as the iconic Goin’ Band from Raiderland, Symphonic Band, and Scarlet Voce Treble Choir, where she served as an Alto section leader.  Notably, in 2018 she co-founded the all-women Wind Quintet called Virago, who performed at the 2020 TMEA Music Showcase and were semi finalists in the 2020 Coleman Chamber Music Competition.  She also accompanied the Symphonic Band on their 2020 CBDNA tour through the DFW area and at the Southwest Divisional Conference at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK.  Bethany feels immense gratitude and admiration towards mentors such as Nick Seibert, Stuart Womble, Christopher M. Smith, Eric Allen, and Carolyn Cruse.
