Janet Nye

Author, Recipe for Success
Well-known Horn Instructor in DFW for over two decades

Janet Nye is the co-author of “Recipe for Success: A balanced curriculum for young horn players” and an educational representative for Houghton Horns, a pro-brass shop in Keller, TX . She and her colleague Karen Houghton, have presented numerous horn pedagogy clinics for band conferences and universities all over the United States since the release of their book in 2019. In December of 2021, Houghton and Nye have been invited to present at the prestigious Midwest band and orchestra clinic. Nye has been a private horn instructor for over twenty-five years, primarily in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. She also maintains an active freelance career. She has played fourth horn in the Waco Symphony and 2nd horn in the Irving Symphony for over twenty years as well as performing regularly with the San Angelo Symphony and maintaining other freelance work. She performed horn throughout Germany with www.eurobrass.de, a Christian Brass Ensemble, for seven summers and can be heard on their CD recording “Danket den Herrn”. She received her B.M.E. from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory or Music and her M.M. in horn performance from Baylor University.  Her teaching and playing has been strongly influenced by Koleta Tilson, Steven Gross, Michael Hatfield, Margaret “Peg” Robinson, Gregory Hustis, and Haley Hoops. She is very passionate about the community aspect of music and is known for her ability to connect her students to one another and the community in unique ways. Janet Nye resides in Arlington, TX with her husband and their two young boys.
